Pinewood Derby Showdown, Sponsored by AAC at the Walworth County Fair
Elkhorn, WI – On September 2, 2023, the Walworth County Fairgrounds became a hub of excitement as Pinewood Derby enthusiasts from Wisconsin, Illinois, and even as far as Michigan gathered for a thrilling day of racing and fun, thanks to the sponsorship of Advanced Auto Clinic in Delavan.
The day kicked off with excitement as registration began at 8 am, and the racing action didn’t stop until 5 pm. Three categories of racing, including youth and mentors, offered participants a shot at glory and a share of the impressive $5,000 in cash prizes.
In the youth category, which included ages 5-10 and 11-17, competitors vied for the following prizes:
Youth 5-10 Age Group:
- 1st Place: $1,500.00
- 2nd Place: $750.00
- 3rd Place: $250.00
Youth 11-17 Age Group:
- 1st Place: $1,500.00
- 2nd Place: $750.00
- 3rd Place: $250.00
Mentors, aged 18 and above, also had their moment in the spotlight with a $100 cash prize, and all top-three finishers in each category received a free oil change courtesy of Advanced Auto Clinic.
The Pinewood Derby action kicked off at noon with the 5-10 age group, providing thrills, rewards, and friendly competition for all participants and spectators.
“This exciting event is not just for Scouts,” said one of parents. “Any child aged 5 to 17 with a mentor partner was welcome to participate. With a total prize pool of $5,000, the competition was fierce, and the rewards were enticing. The youth participants had a chance to win big!”
In addition to the thrilling races, all registered racers received a free race kit and a free general admission ticket to the 2023 Walworth County Fair.
Advanced Auto Clinic was proud to be a sponsor of this year’s event. None of this would have been possible without the support of Glaciers Edge Council and volunteers from Indian Trails District, who ensured the event ran smoothly.
“We had a ton of people comment on how well the event was set up and ran, and how great of a job the scouts did,” added Kacey Kaderly. Kids and parents also commented on how much fun they had, and they can’t wait to do it again next year. The day was perfect with ideal weather, fantastic fair food, and exciting rides. As a grand finale, Styx performed live in the evening, providing nighttime entertainment.
